Cape Breton Tour
Early planning is underway for this year’s Cape Breton tour. Our Cape Breton member, Bill English, has generously offered his knowledgeable services to be our Tour Organizer.
August 4 and 5 is the Crab Fest weekend in Louisbourg, so we have decided to take advantage of it and the activities at the Fortress and revise the previously planned dates. We’re taking the unusual step to seek registrations for this tour before all the details have been worked out because of the expected shortage of accommodation in Louisbourg due to Crab Fest. Your response will give us an idea of overall interest and help us plan the post-Louisbourg part of the tour.
Accommodations will likely be somewhat of a challenge, but Bill has managed to reserve 8 rooms at the North Star Beach Resort (formerly Point of View Inn and Suites) for the early birds that are interested. They can be reserved for the next 7 days. An ocean view room is $289/night and the others are around $200/night. These rooms are under the name of Bill English for BATANS – call and make your reservations at (902) 733-2080. There are other options which can be booked at a later date.
The tour will start with a meet and greet in Port Hawkesbury late afternoon
on Thursday August 3. We are targeting the Maritime Inn and will provide details soon. We will be working on a route for the next morning to take us to our next meet and greet, Friday August 4, 1 p.m., at the North Star Beach Resort in Louisbourg.
Between Friday afternoon and Saturday evening, we will arrange events which will take in both the Crab Fest and activities at Fortress Louisbourg. There is a street dance on Friday night and the Crab Fest lunch on Saturday.
Suppers will be arranged for Friday, August 4, and Saturday, August 5, which will include the Beach Resort. Bill is investigating making arrangements at the Fortress for a special event which would include one of those suppers, cannon fire at noon, possibly a rifle firing and a rum tasting.
Part B of the event will be the tour around the Cabot Trail. We will start Sunday morning, August 6, travelling counterclockwise through Ingonish with a lunch stop at Pleasant Bay. We are considering the next overnight stay in Cheticamp and the last day, August 7, could include tours through Inverness, Glenora Distillery, Mabou and Judique and then home.
Registration, for logged-in members via the Events page of the BATANS website, will open at 9:00am on Saturday March 25th.
