About this event

Welcome to the 2024 Eastern Shore Drive.  We are hoping to have a great day of driving along the water and through the spectacular fall colours.  Enjoy all the sights, smells and sounds of Nova Scotias’ Eastern Shore.


Part 1. Getting Started

  • We will gather between 0900 and 0930 in the Subway parking lot (380 Pleasant Street, Dartmouth) near the Woodside Ferry Terminal in Dartmouth
  • Coincidentally this is the same parking lot where Birdies Bakery is located, and they happen to make excellent pastries and bread.It might be worth a visit to ensure that you do not starve on the drive.
  • We will review the itinerary and leave at approximately 0930.

Part 2. Subway to Lawrencetown Beach - About 35 min

  • Exit the Subway parking lot to the left and head toward Eastern Passage
  • In Eastern Passage you come to an intersection, TURN LEFT.
  • Follow Highway 322
  • RIGHT at COW BAY ROAD
  • Follow Cow Bay Road around the point
  • You will see signs for Rainbow Haven on the Left
  • LEFT turn at BISSETT ROAD to continue on Highway 322.
  • Follow Bissett Road/Highway 322 to a T- intersection in Cole Harbour at HIGHWAY 207 – You will be facing a former church now converted to a Karate Studio.
  • Turn RIGHT on HIGHWAY 207
  • Follow Highway 207 along the coast to LAWRENCETOWN BEACH Provincial Park. You will see it on the Right Hand side of the road with boardwalks, changing rooms and washrooms.
  • Stop at Lawrencetown Beach for a bit of a stretch and walk on the beach for 15 - 30 minutes.

Part 3. Lawrencetown Beach to Gaetz Brook and Calvin McKays amazing collection. About 30 min

  • From Lawrencetown Beach turn RIGHT on Highway 207
  • Along the coast through Seaforth, Grand Desert and West Chezzetcook to meet HIGHWAY 7.
  • Follow the signs to TURN RIGHT ON HIGHWAY 7 toward MUSQUODOBIT HARBOUR
  • Shortly before reaching Musquodobit Harbour there will be signs for Gaetz Brook
  • Slight RIGHT onto Pinehill Drive in Gaetz Brook
  • Then RIGHT onto Pleasant Drive in Gaetz Brook
  • Calvin McKays home is notable for the sculptures of large birds on the lawn.You won’t be able to miss it.
  • Calvin and his wife have kindly offered to host us and show us around his amazing collection of automobiles and folk art.
  • Expected stop for 30-60 minutes.

Part 4. Musquodobit Harbour for Lunch. 10 minute drive

  • From Calvin McKays home we take Pleasant Drive back to Pinehill Drive
  • LEFT on Pinehill Drive
  • Follow Pinehill Drive to Highway 7.
  • Follow Highway 7 into Musquodobit Harbour.
  • On the right you will see a Shell station and Tim Hortons. Feel free to fuel up before continuing next door to HARBOUR FISH ‘N FRIES (right hand side next door to the Shell station) for lunch
  • About 45 minutes to 1 hour

Part 5. About 45 min

  • After lunch we will TURN RIGHT onto Highway 7 for about 200 m.
  • LEFT on HIGHWAY 327 to Meaghers Grant.
  • Follow Highway 327 for about 20 min to HIGHWAY 212 toward ELDERBANK
  • You will see a sign on the Right hand side of the road for WYSES CORNER/HALIFAX INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT and HIGHWAY 212. Turn LEFT.Be careful as this can be a busy stretch of road.
  • Follow 212 toward the airport watching for the AIRLANE GOLF CLUB
  • Just past the Airlane Golf Club we will turn RIGHT on OLDHAM ROAD.
  • Oldham Road winds along the east side of the airport and around toward Enfield.
  • Oldham Road intersects HIGHWAY 2 at the ENFIELD BIG STOP
  • Caution crossing Highway 2 into the Big Stop parking lot.

This concludes the formal run. Please feel free to have a chat in the parking lot or head inside for a slice of world famous pie.
